Ultimate Frisbee Success

Amanda Fung has just returned from competing at the highest levels in Ultimate Frisbee last month. Partially funded by a TeamMONASH International Sport Travel Grant, her trip included the US Open tournament in Ohio and the World Under 23 Championships in London.

Amanda’s team, Ellipsis, won the US Open Championship. As the only Australian team competing, Ellipsis’ skill was cemented by not only winning the tournament but by beating the current Ultimate Frisbee World Champions, Drag N’ Thrust. The profile of Ultimate Frisbee was raised as the team’s semi-final and final were both televised on ESPN3 in the USA.

Continuing on from her team’s success at the US Open, Amanda travelled on to London where she competed for Australia at the World Under 23 Championships. Amanda was the captain of the Australian team. The team came fourth, losing 12-13 to Canada in the nail biting Bronze Medal game. She was exceptionally happy to help Australia break into the top four in the world, breaking up what had long been thought of as the world’s four powerhouses – USA, Canada, Japan and Columbia.

Amanda is currently completing a double degree in Commerce and Law.
